The Sounds of the Ravernator

The Ravernator comes with a wide variety of sounds, Ranging from Synth basses all the way up to Lush Pads. The sounds can be used for many different genre`s of music also. Although their are alot of hard sounds in the ravernator, it can also do softer BellTones, Arp, keys and pad sounds also. This is due to the Included Fire and Ice Expansion which comes packed free with this edition of the Ravernator.

As mentioned,The Fire and Ice Expansion is included in the Ravernator bringing the total number of presets to 700 with thousands of variations. The fire and ice Expansion comes with 270 presets including Synth, Lead, Bass, Keys, Organs, Pads, Strings, BellTones, Arps and Distorted sounds.

The Sound Engine - Oscillators

The Sound engine is like a Hardware Sampler from the 1990`s. 16 or 32 bit wav files can be loaded in each of the 6 slots. The Engine also uses its own format called Wusik-Soundsets and Wusik-Presets. The Soundsets can hold multiple wav files and be saved as one file, Whilst the presets normally use the Soundset files. Each of the 6 sample playback Oscillators have access to the rest of the Wusik engine. This includes individual Amplifier Envelope, Filter Envelope, LFO`s, multi modulation sources, filters, 2 Effect sections, fine tune, Transpose, Pan and Velocity Levels.

The Most important thing in any software is the ease of use and features. The workflow and structure is spot on and everything is labelled clearly with tool tips available on every knob and slider.

The Sound Engine - Filters

Filters are the key to shaping sounds and alot can be done with a good set of filters. The Wusik sound engine has 4 types of filter. These are Low Pass, High pass, Band Pass and a Notch filter. Each filter has 12 db or 24 db slopes and are independent for each Oscillator. On top of that every filter has a Frequency and Cut-off knob. The Low pass filter can be pushed very hard without breaking up and can produce some acid like sounds if pushed. You can also have 4 filters active at the same time for each oscillator.

The Filters can be routed to LFO`s, Pitch, Modulation Envelope and synced to host. All in all the Filters produce a nice smooth sounds and can be pushed Hard.

The Sound Engine - LFO and Modulation Matrix

The Engine comes with a comprehensive Modulation matrix. Multiple parameters can be Modulation in the 6×6 Matrix pictured to the left. Take for example, a filter Frequency could be modulated by an LFO to create a sweeping filter sound. This is just one of many possibilities which the mod matrix can be used. LFO stands for Low frequency Oscillator. The Engine comes with 8 separate LFO`s per layer and 6 Waveform type. The LFO`s can be synced to host or set to any tempo or free running. The Mod matrix uses the LFO`s exclusively.

The Sound Engine - Wave Sequencer and Arpeggiator

A wave sequencer is the sequencing of Waveforms to put it at its simplest. The Engine has 2 separate W-sequencers with 32 slots each to put your waveforms in.

The Wave Sequencer also comes with an powerful Arpeggiator which can be set free running or synced to host. The Arp has 7 modes including Off, Up, Down, UP-Down, Random, Order and Pattern. A whole book could be written on this Section of the Sound Engine.

The Sound Engine - Effects Section

The Effects section adds spice to ordinary sounds. The sound engine allows for 2 Effects per preset. You get Fx 1 and Fx 2 which can be controlled from the Effects page shown to the left. Their are 6 types of Effects with various built in presets to use for each type.

The main effects are Double Chorus, Quad Chorus, Stereo Echo, Distortion, Studio Reverb (Anwida Technology), Studio Reverb, lite Studio Reverb, Quad Studio Reverb, Echobit quantizer, 3 Tap Stereo Delay, 3 tap delay Parallel, Reverse Echo, Ring Modulator, Phaser, Flanger 32 band Vocoder, Dub Delay, leslie, Re psycho, overdrive, Multi Band Compressor,  Rez Filter,  Pitch Tracker , Vocoder and Talkbox.

The Sound Engine - File Browser and Config Menu

A Simple browser is used for the Ravernator. Scrolling through patches is a doddle with the main menu on the left and the presets on the right. You can scroll up and down by using your keyboard up and down Buttons. An active preset is highlighted in light blue and white text.

The Config Menu is where you decide on the more important settings in the Ravernator. From within the Config Menu you can control the Octave range of the whole Synth, The Quality Output and Anti Aliasing level, the Overall Volume Level, The Tuning and Skin Selector. On top of this other options include : enabling or disabling Effects and setting the Multitimbral level.
